why can't I just be normal?

"Why can't you just be normal, like every body else?" Brett said as he kneaded homemade fondant for the cake I was making. So this comment really hurt my feelings at first, because I had pored my heart and soul into Graidy's 1st birthday party.

I like, scratch that, love to make things extravagant and special, I want people to remember. Maybe I'm a perfectionist, maybe I overindulge in most things, maybe when I get things in my head I just can't let them go. I just love the fact that my mom has taught me so many wonderful skills. With just about everything that I see in a craft store or boutique I look at I can say "I can make that." (maybe not as good, but I can still make it).

Side Note: I wish, wish, wish that we owned our house! I have so many ideas running through my head at all times about what I would do design wise with a house... Maybe this summer, maybe not.

Back to the comment and letting things go, I just couldn't let that comment go! Don't get me wrong, I know he is just a silly boy that didn't want to help me knead pounds of fondant. Which I could have bought, but it is cheaper to make. But finally after 6 months, I realized that I get a lot of good complements and hype over a my projects and there are some people that do appreciate my amplified, embellished, dramatic, life. (Including my husband!)

I love making things and not being "normal" here are a few of my projects as of late:
Decor:
Dick and Jane Nursery:
I just love antiques, and I didn't want to do just any kind of nursery. It seems to be a bit drab to do sports or a zoo theme these days. So Dick and Jane it was! You really have to see it in person to appreciate it, I wish we weren't in a rental so I could change some wall colors!
My Bedroom:
This is just a preview, the best is yet to come! We did a complete over hall on our room, but I am still in the process of re-finishing my night stand. have I told you lately that I love IKEA!?
Bathroom:
I finally bought everything for my bathroom, piece by piece. Its almost too bright. I already want to change it, I found one much better at Target :(
Laundry:
Most of you should know where we live, if you don't its a small little rental house and my laundry is in my kitchen. Ugh... So I decided to spruce things up. Inspired by my cousins friend over at Lanier Creations.
This and That:
Have you heard about Crafters Corner in American Fork? So much fun! They have a bunch of projects and kits wood and metal. You pay a $5 class fee and get to use all of their materials (paint, paper, ribbon, etc.) I made these there.

Digital Scrapbooking:
I've been doing a lot of digital scrapbooking lately. Here is a banner I made for my mom's blog. I plan to show more, its not like I don't brag about my little guy enough!

Cakes:
1. For my niece Gabrielle's Birthday
2. For Graiden's Birthday
3. Coming soon for Mitch's Birthday

To Do's:
Entertainment Set:
I really want to make this Pottery Barn inspired entertainment set I found at Shanty2Chic. I wouldn't put it in my living room, but most likely in a kids play room.
Head Board:
Baby Onesies:
I don't remember where I saw these I just saved the picture sorry I can't give credit to someone!
Sand Box:
An other PB inspiration... Brett and Nivek are almost done with it, I better start sewing the canopy.

Something my mom has been making:
She will be selling these on her blog shjco.

Bought, now where to put this lovely number?
Yes those are fingerprints.

Brett just bought me a soldering iron for necklaces, still practicing, its a lot harder than it looks! I'd also like to make quilt I went up to Pine Needles today and found the most amazing "Mother Goose" inspired quilt, if I have a girl next I'm totally taking the time to quilt it.

FYI: If you need a good vinyl girl check out this site Simply Designed Expressions, this is where I got almost all of the vinyl that you see here.

P.S. Brett didn't know people make frosting home made before he met me so, you can see why he didn't think I was normal... Oh and sorry for the extremely long post.

See I promised I'd blog about them!

Long post equals long comment. First I love your shower curtain. I have one really similar from target but mine is blue. Second, those cakes are insane. I have seen people make homemade fondant cakes and they always look like crap. But yours are perfect. How about you show me and my friend how to do such masterpieces? Third, Love the idea of hanging a fence gate on the wall. And last but not least, those onesies are adorable. I think I shall copy those and make a few. Whew, sorry about the long comment.

First of all: love, Love, LOVE all the crafty design things - AMAZiNG!

Secondly: "Why can't you just be normal, like every body else?" ...so, what IS the definition of "normal"? ...I don't think ANYONE is normal & thank God for that. It is to everyone in your life, that you are one-of-a-kind...your OWN person. CHEERS to YOU & the extravagant ideas you have... :)
